7th Circuit ruling makes Supreme Court review of right to carry likely

Supreme_CourtWith the recent Seventh Circuit opinion in Moore v. Madigan holding that the Second Amendment right to bear arms extends outside the home, we now have at least a partial circuit split with the Second Circuit that makes it likely the Supreme Court will need to resolve the issue.

Gun rights supporters should hope this occurs before any of the current conservative justices retire since any nominee that President Obama puts forward will almost certainly be an enemy of self-defense laws.

Larry Pratt calls for end to victim-disarmament zones

Larry_PrattLarry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, has a great article in Opposing Views today in which he takes on the logical fallacies inherent in ‘gun-free school zone’ laws.

He points out the damning fact that almost every single mass murder in the last 20 years has occurred in a  so-called ‘gun-free’ zones.

As Larry so aptly puts it, “[o]ne measure of insanity is repeating the same failure time after time, hoping that the next time the failure will turn out to be a success. Gun-free zones are a lethal insanity.

GOP Congressman has the right idea about securing our schools

CVNI wish to God she had an M-4 in her office locked up so when she heard gunfire she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands but she takes him out, takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids.

– Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert

Congressman Gohmert made these comments on Fox News Sunday and deserves our respect for doing so. As we begin to have a conversation about ‘meaningful action’ to prevent these types of tragedies in the future, arming and training teachers should be high on our list.

Thank you Representative Gohmert! And thank you to the Republican Party for standing between gun owners and the inevitable gun control onslaught from Democrats!

David_ThweattTexas law does not allow permit holders to carry at K-12 schools unless “pursuant to the written regulations or written authorization of the institution.”

Clackamas Town Center shooter was confronted by armed citizen

Clackamas_DefenderOne of the talking points that always comes up when there is a mass shooting is whether or not an armed citizen confronting the shooter would be effective in stopping the rampage.

This question takes on added poignance when you realize that most of these madmen are determined to take their own lives. Therefore, they usually will do so immediately when confronted by armed resistance rather than allow someone else to have any control over them.

In the Clackamas Town Center shooting, that armed defender was permit-holder Nick Meli.  Listen to his story in the video below from News Channel 8 Portland.

Ferrum college students robbed at gunpoint

FerrumStudents were robbed at gunpoint last night on the campus of Ferrum College in two separate incidents. Police say they are looking for two men, at least one of which was armed.

Why should we allow adult students, faculty, and staff to carry on campus? Maybe because criminals who prey upon them do not obey laws!

Gun sales soar as violent crime plummets

NICS_ChecksFBI statisics show that background checks for gun purchases have more than doubled in the last decade.

During the same period, FBI data also reveals that violent crime has been in a steep decline.

While it is not possible to statistically attribute a causation or correlation to the two events, one thing is extremely clear … despite the lies and rhetoric of those who oppose civil rights, more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens does NOT increase the incidence of violent crime in any way.

Another mass shooting in a victim disarmament zone

CT_ShootingThe Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton Connecticut has been the scene of a shooting this morning.

While details are still sketchy, officials are saying that there are multiple victims and at least one shooter may have taken his own life. It remains unclear whether rumors of a second shooter still at large are correct.

Please keep the children and families affected by this act of evil in your thoughts and prayers even as we prepare for the inevitable attempt by anti-gunners to use the tragedy to strip the rights from law-abiding citizens.

During the day, the following live stream video courtesy of Eyewitness News 3 will keep you updated on what’s happening:

Legally-armed Wyoming woman prevents nail salon robbery

Fingernail_GunsWhen a man entered Modern Nails in Casper Wyoming on December 3rd, he immediately raised red flags by offering to sell diamonds to the employee working the front counter.  When the employee declined his offer, he reached into his jacket and  started to pull out what witnesses could only describe as a ‘silver pistol.’

But that was as far as he got because a customer, alert to the situation, already had her gun in hand.  Seeing this, the man wisely decided to flee.

Thanks to that armed customer, those present at the nail salon that day were spared at least a robbery and perhaps far worse.
