In 2009, the Connecticut Law Review discussed ‘pretend gun-free zones’

Dave_KopelIn 2009, author, attorney, and researcher Dave Kopel had an article published in the Connecticut Law Review which discussed the fact that ‘Gun Free’ School Zones are nothing more than a legal fiction.

The summary of the article states that:

Most states issue permits to carry a concealed handgun for lawful protection to an applicant who is over twenty-one years of age, and who passes a fingerprint-based background check and a safety class.

These permits allow the person to carry a concealed defensive handgun almost everywhere in the state.

Should professors, school teachers, or adult college and graduate students who have such permits be allowed to carry firearms on campus? In the last two years, many state legislatures have debated this topic. School boards, regents, and administrators are likewise faced with decisions about whether to change campus firearms policies.

This Article is the first to provide a thorough analysis of the empirical evidence and policy arguments regarding licensed campus carry.

NRA sees huge boost in membership after Democrats call for gun control

NRA_CountrySince the attack in Newtown and the Democrat’s subsequent efforts to ‘exploit‘ the tragedy to advance their radical anti-civil-rights agenda, the NRA is reporting an increase in membership that dwarfs anything they have ever experienced.

Fox News reports that the gun rights organization has seen its membership rolls increase by an average of 8,000 members per day since Newtown.

They also note that both the number and amount of financial contributions has skyrocketed as well.

This is all very good news for gun owners. At the national level, the NRA remains the dominant force in legislative lobbying for gun rights and every new member adds to the clout the organization can bring to bear against the Democrats over the next few months.

And that is where you can help. I know that some people in the pro-gun community have disagreed with the NRA in the past but now is the time for us to join together in solidarity.

If you are not a member of the NRA then join!

If you are a regular member then upgrade to a life membership!

If you are a life member then upgrade to an endowment membership!

And don’t forget to give gift memberships to every single person in your family!

The battle for our rights has begun and those who stand at the sidelines will have no one but themselves to blame if the politicians succeed in stripping away the rights your forefathers fought so hard to leave you as your legacy.  Will your children be able to say the same?

Obama Administration declares war on gun owners

Obama_Coming_For_Your_GunsToday on Meet the Press, President Obama told accused criminal David Gregory that, during his second term, he would put his “full weight” behind a gun control agenda.

He went on to mock the suggestion put forward by the NRA, state officials, and numerous law enforcement agencies that armed officers be placed in all schools.

This comment is particularly hypocritical because his own children (and those of Meet the Press host David Gregory) attend Sidwell Friends which has 11 armed security guards on staff in addition to the secret service detail they enjoy.

Anti-American bigot Piers Morgan will leave America if we do not pass gun control

Piers MorganAs the Whitehouse.gov petition to deport Piers Morgan approaches 100,000 signatures, the self-righteous prat has sought out a British outlet to defend himself and spew his hatred of all things American.

You will have to read the article for yourself to see just how out-of-touch Morgan is with American culture. But I will share a few of the more outrageous comments.

The first thing that caught my attention was his claim that the buying frenzy post-Connecticut has catapulted him past anger and into “blind rage.” He went on to call all those millions of gun owners (and TV viewers) “insane.”

Are you paying attention CNN? Isn’t the point of ratings to get MORE viewers? You probably have a pretty solid lock on the progressive demographic but is it really wise to have your star pupil out there insulting middle america?

In any case, the good news is that he ends his tirade with a promise that, if America doesn’t give in to his demands and strip ourselves of our rights, he will “seriously consider deporting” himself.

Your job America is to make sure that happens!

After all, Britain is probably missing an accused phone-hacker who has no scruples about running faked photographs …. Or maybe not.

OpenCarry.org Co-Founder John Pierce Discusses record Virginia gun sales

Mark Bailey of Bailey's Gun Supplies at The Nation's Gun Show at the Dulles Expo CenterIn the wake of a concerted effort by Democrats to “exploit” the tragedy in Connecticut to further their radical gun-control agenda, gun sales have skyrocketed across the country.

And nowhere is that more evident that in Virginia, birthplace of liberty. When approached by the Washington Post, the Virginia State Police reported that “gun dealers requested nearly 5,150 background checks on purchasers in Virginia days after the Dec. 14 shootings in Newtown, Conn.,  the largest number ever in a single day … and in the days since, the daily number of background checks has regularly doubled corresponding totals from the previous year.

I was quoted heavily in the resulting article.

The latest claim is that Gregory got bad advice from ATF

ATF_Bad_InfoNBC continues to remain silent over the on-air crime committed by David Gregory last Sunday during Meet The Press when he was clearly in possession of a ‘high-capacity magazine’ in violation of D.C. Official Code § 7-2506.01.

This code section makes it a crime to simply possess a ‘high-capacity magazine’ regardless of whether it is attached to a firearm and makes no exception that would apply to Gregory’s on-air display.

Furthermore, this is a strict-liability offense which does not require any intent on the part of the person being charged. Claims of lack of evil intent, lack of knowledge, or ‘misunderstanding’ have no bearing on guilt in a strict liability case.

If you possess it … you are guilty. And Gregory very clearly possessed it.  Maybe that is why NBC is being so quite.

But other are talking …

Failure to arrest David Gregory illustrates the hypocrisy of gun control

David_Gregory_FelonLast Sunday, in a Meet The Press interview with NRA Executive Vice-President Wayne LaPierre, NBC’s David Gregory repeatedly held up a 30 round magazine to illustrate his point that there should be a law against possessing such accessories.

The problem?  There IS a law in DC where the NBC studio is located. That law, like many of the draconian laws in DC that Gregory is a champion of, is very clear on what is prohibited:

D.C. Official Code § 7-2506.01

(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term large capacity ammunition feeding device shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition..”

The law makes no exception for self-righteous news commentators and Gregory cannot even claim ignorance of the law since his office reportedly contacted the DC Metropolitan Police Department prior to the show and were told that it was illegal in the District. Noted gun rights activist Ed Levine contacted the MPD and received the following response:

Libertarian Party of Kansas sues town of Prairie Village over open carry ban

PrairieVillageKansasThe Libertarian Party of Kansas has sued three separate localities in Kansas over their open carry bans. The lawsuits pit the Kansas State Constitution and state law against the home-rule powers of localities.

While two of the localities are still considering their options, Prairie Village has declared that they intend to vigorously defend their ban. They are doing so despite the fact that, on it’s face, it is in direct violation of the Kansas Constitution which provides that a “person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, for lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any other lawful purpose.

The Libertarian Party of Kansas needs our support to continue fighting these rogue localities. Please consider giving! Every dollar helps and they are fighting for our rights!

New York police begin planning for confiscation

NYPDCBS News reports that the NYPD is actively considering how they will go about confiscating guns from law-abiding citizens should the anti-gunners succeed in passing a semi-auto ban.

Given the massive civil rights abuses committed by the NYPD in the past, one can only imagine how many citizens will be assaulted, falsely arrested, or even killed should such an event take place.
