Alabama legislator moves to allow guns at work

An Alabama lawmaker is again pushing legislation that would let employees take handguns to work.

The Montgomery Advertiser reported Friday that state Sen. Roger Bedford, D-Russellville, said the bill is aimed at increasing personal safety.

“I think it’s necessary so people will have peace of mind when they’re traveling to and from work,” he said.

Oklahoma man arrested for open carrying at polling place

News9.com – Oklahoma City, OK – News, Weather, Video and Sports |

However, the statute under which he is charged is silent as to polling places. § 21-1277(A)(1) only bans carry in “Any structure, building, or office space which is owned or leased by a city, town, county, state, or federal governmental authority for the purpose of conducting business with the public.” Therefore, since we know the retirement center was not “owned” by the government, we need to look for whether or not it was “leased” under the ordinary meaning of the term.

One of our own needs our help!

I received the following heartbreaking message over the weekend from Bobby Cleveland, owner of OpenCarry.org Sponsor Cleveland’s Holsters about the Gutenberger family.

Many in the open carry community may know Gabe.  He is a Wisconsin Carry, Inc. volunteer instructor and has helped many Wisconsin resident get their permits.  They don’t come any better than Gabe and now he needs our help!

Please read Bobby’s message and help if you can!

It is with great sadness that we share with you the tragedy that has fallen upon the Gutenberger family. Gabe & Stephanie Gutenberger were involved in a serious car accident on Friday and Stephanie did not survive this accident.

This tragic event has left a husband without his wife and children without their mother. During this emotional time Gabe will be focused on mending his soul and that of his children, and I am sure finances are the last thing on his mind.

We have set up a PayPal account to send financial support to, gabe@clevelandsholsters.com

Please be sure to send your contributions as personal gift so that all of your gift is received by the Gutenberger family.

Any help you can send to this family would make a huge difference! Yes, even $5 would make a positive impact!

For those of you that pray, please send those too!

Bobby

Tulsa World Does Great Job Reporting on New Open Carry Law

While many reporters confuse the numbers and the issues involved, Jarrell Wade from TulsaWorld took the time to talk to us at OpenCarry.org and hits is out of the park with a great article on Oklahoma’s upcoming transition to licensed open carry.

“The new law will allow permit-holders to carry their handguns out in the open. That could lead to more people calling 911 to report a person with a gun, according to law enforcement officials. And more people have been obtaining permits because of attention to the issue.

But, if anecdotal and statistical evidence from other states is any indication, those could be the only big differences in Oklahoma on Thursday, the date the open-carry law goes into effect.

OpenCarry.org has a question for the next presidential debate

The Second Amendment Question we need the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates to Answer!

Governor Romney/President Obama or Representative Ryan/Vice President Biden:

A divided United States Supreme Court has twice ruled by way of  razor thin 5 to 4 votes that the Second Amendment “guarantee[s] the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation.

However the 4 dissenting justices in District of Columbia v. Heller stated that “self-defense . . . is not the [Second] Amendment’s concern.

If you are elected and have the occasion to nominate a Supreme Court justice, will you choose a nominee who believes that the Second Amendment is concerned with the individual right of self-defense, or one who believes that self-defense is not the Second Amendment’s concern?
