In the wake of the attacks on gun ownership by Jason Whitlock and Bob Costas, the media has turned their attention to the number of athletes who legally and responsibly own guns. And the numbers are impressive.
According to an article in today’s USA Today, 3 out of every 4 NFL players are gun owners and the majority of them state it is for personal protection.
Former NFL running back and Big Stone Gap Virginia native Thomas Jones says that “Most guys when they first come into the league is when they first start to realize they need protection.”

After 65 of 80 Colts players proudly proclaimed that they were gun owners, Bob Costas implied that many of them owned their guns illegally and even if they didn’t they were too ‘aggressive‘ and ‘subject to impulses‘ to be trusted with firearms.

Bob Costas is in trouble with football fans, a large majority of which are gun owners, and his insulting attempt at an apology is only adding fuel to the fire.
Despite the ‘sky is falling‘ warnings of those who oppose open carry, the media is reporting that many businesses in Oklahoma have adopted a ‘wait-and-see’ attitude about the practice and some are downright welcoming.
Many permit holders in Michigan are excited about the Senate passage of SB 59. But it has also generated a great deal of controversy and concern amongst open carry advocates.
